Spring 2005-Newsletter

May we take this opportunity to wish all the friends of GAHFI a very happy and prosperous 2005 - ein Gutes Neues Jahr! Also, thank you for your past support for our organization. We are alive and well and much has happened since our last newsletter in the fall. The following reports will bring you up to date, and fill you in on up-coming activities, so, read on!

ANNUAL DINNER AND MUSICAL CABARET 2005

Tired of snow and cold? Well, GAHFI will provide you a touch of Spring at our 8th Annual Dinner and Musical Cabaret "SPRING DREAMS-FRÜHLINGSGEFüHLE" on Saturday, April 9 at the Carpathia Club in Sterling Heights. The Cabaret show, under the musical direction of Dr. Bill Kupsky, will be spectacular - beautiful songs and singers that will bring you a breath of spring through their performance. Soloists are coming from New York and Chicago as well as local talent. Songs will be in English and German, but all with a German or German-American connection. We recommend you avail yourself of this LIVE musical show.

In addition to the great music, those who have attended our Dinner/Cabarets in past years know what a treat it is to savor our delicious German dinner of Rouladen, Spätzle, Schnitzel, Rotkohl, as well as soup, potato, wine and dessert. You won't want to miss this one! While you dine, strolling music will accompany your meal and will be provided for dancing after the show. An elegant and entertaining evening is promised for all in true German tradition.

This year's recipients of GAHFI's Treue Freunde award will be Annette Koerner, James Stokes, of the Governor's Michigan Office, and the Honorable Fred W. Hoffman, Honorary German Consul, all worthy true friends of GAHFI. The institution to be awarded as GAHFI's Treue Freunde will be Wayne State University.

Tickets, at $50 per person, may be obtained by calling 313-886-5065. Doors will open at 6 PM, dinner at 7 PM, and the show will begin at 8 PM. If you absolutely cannot attend, purchase an ad (business or greeting) to appear in our program book which will tell others that you value what we are doing and that you want to be involved in our organization. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Wayne State University Eugene C. Strobel Memorial Scholarship Fund (a non-profit entity) for the Junior Year Abroad in Munich students.

GERMAN UNITY DAY CELEBRATION SPECIAL FOR GAHFI

At this year's October celebration of German Unity Day, GAHFI Officers, President Marge Donofrio, and Vice President, Germaine Strobel, were surprised by a presentation of a generous donation to the WSU Eugene C. Strobel Memorial Scholarship Fund by the Hon. Fred Hoffman, Honorary German Consul. The occasion was the Unity Day Reception at the Detroit Ahtletic Club hosted by the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest. With hundreds of GACC members in attendance, Marge and Germaine made thank you remarks and posed for pictures tom commemorate the event. Our late founder and president, Gene Strobel, continues to be honored by these wonderful gestures of tribute.
